Rufus Yukon grew up in a small island community in the (insert body of water here). The island was small, having only 1 port, a village which Rufus once called home. Rufus’s father was a crewman aboard a fishing vessel, the Tail Waver, which docked on the island often, using it as a base point between the mainland and the open ocean. Rufus and his mother lived in the village. She worked at a bakery and they lived in a small 3-room apartment on the same block as the bakery. They had a good life for the most part.

Then one day, at the age of 14, Rufus was at the eastern beach when he noticed a strange ship pull into the harbor across the bay. The Tail Waver had just docked an hour ago, the holds were still being unloaded.

The new ship was sleek, and had many sails. It passed near the dock, as it did numerous figures jumped or swung from the boat onto the docks. Shouts rang out, then a moment of eerie silence as everyone seemed to go still.

The silence was broken by more shouts from the village. More sailors were making their way out to the docks, wielding weapons and not looking very talkative. It was too far away to make out individual people, so Rufus ran back into the forest and toward the village. Sounds of steel on steel rang out as he made his way along the trail which led to the back-side of town.

By the time he reached the village the sounds of battle had stopped. Rufus was still careful as he crept his way toward the docks. From a shallow area of high reeds he looked upon the 1st horror of many he would see in his life. All the fisherman of the village were dead. Even his father’s body was among the unmoving corpses.

A scream rang out and Rufus recognized it as his mother’s voice. He hurriedly made his way along the alleyways to his house. He entered his house from the back-door but found it empty. Then he saw his mother through the open front door, she was out in the street, and seemingly on her knees. Rufus strafed around a bit to get a better look through the front window. It was at that moment that Rufus saw his 2nd, and most traumatic, horror. An immense Half-orc was raping his mother from behind, right out in the open street.

It was at this moment that Rufus’s childhood was whipped away. His mind was like a blank white slate. On top of that slate was only the image of his mother’s agony. Her blood was pooling on the ground, it became too much for the boy to take. He looked around and his mind immediately focus on a long hollow pipe of metal which hung between two braces on the wall. His Mother hung clothes from it for drying.

Rufus removed the poll from the brackets and rushed forward toward the window holding the heavy poll parallel to the ground like a lance. The poll crashed through the window, Rufus dove forward with the poll, launching himself through the window as well.

The Half-orc had no warning. The poll impaled him instantly, his armor had been breached like tin. Rufus came crashing through the window and onto the street. A piece of glass stuck to the window cut into Rufus’s cheek, gouging his right eye as it did. This would later cause a deep scar and cause his right eye to be blood-shot and red instead of white.

His eye stung painfully. But the half-orc was dead, no longer able to hurt his mother. But a look aside told Rufus that his mother was unmoving as well. The boy stood up and only then did he notice the other Pirates standing in a circle around the dead Half-orc. A look of pure shock betrayed the feelings of everyone of them.
One of the Pirates stepped forward, toward the now fallen Half-orc. The pirate sent out a tentative kick toward the body, as if verifying it was dead. Once satisfied he looked to the others.
“He..He’s dead!” it seemed this stunned but also pleased the pirate.
The other pirates started to murmur as well,
“The bastard is dead!” they proclaimed.
“The boy killed him!” they cheered.
“Yes he did,”
The pirate turns to the boy, but Rufus was not paying attention, all he could do was let his tears flow. The salt burned the cut on his right cheek, but it didn’t matter. Pain was a relative term to Rufus now, physical and psychological.
“What’s wrong boy? Do you know that woman?”
Rufus looked at the broken, bloody body,
“The woman was my Mother, but I do not know that thing.” He points to the corpse.
“I am trully sorry,” the pirate says, “Gazogg was a bastard! But none of us were strong enough to challenge him. He held some sway over us, an enchantment perhaps. But now it is broken You took him completely by surprise. What’s your name boy? Mine’s Larsis Mg Doon, and you have just freed us all.”
“I…I’m Rufus.” the boy says weakly. But then he stands up with resolve, “Rufus Yukon.”
“Where is your father Rufus?”
“My father was a fisherman. You killed them all.”
“Ah,” Larsis frowns, “yes, I know, we are guilty of many crimes. Gazogg had a rather perverse way of doing things. I found them revolting yet I agreed and obeyed anyway. We all did.”
“But now we have a chance to change. And we can start with you, Rufus, if you like. We now have Gazogg’s ship, the Spear. You can come with us and learn the ways of the seas. We will still be on the run from the authorities, but we can only pirate the rich, and only steal and loot, not kill and raid.”
“What say you all?”
he shouted, everyone cheered back.
“We need to choose a new captain.”
“Why not you?” Rufus asked, he had nothing left here, the pirate's offer seemed like a good one.
The crowd seemed to agree, so right there on the streets of (village) Larsis Mg Doon was made Captain of the Spear.

Rufus left his home island with the pirates who turned out to be fairly descent, if a bit mischievous folk. This began Rufus's many sea adventures.
Rufus served aboard the Spear for 12 years, eventually rising in rank from cabin boy to 2nd mate. He became known as Rufus Red Eye, a nickname obviously gained by the scar that never left his right cheek, and the bloodshot eye that never healed. Many arrest warrants started to crop up over the years. One thing about not killing your victims is that they live to talk to identify you later. Moving on to new areas is the best way to avert that, but eventually, after many years, you run out of safe harbors.

Rufus is a man of necessity, he will rob for food, he will rob for money, he will fight for either but he won't kill unnecessarily. Though, if given no other choice a dead enemy is better than a live one. And while he doesn't like to kill, he has no problems breaking bones. He has no respect for man's laws, but he only breaks them if it's to his profit. He does not consider Pirating a crime as long as they just loot and pillage and don't scuttle ships and murder villagers. The Spear was a pirate ship, but they tried to only target marks that could, "Afford the loss" so to say. They didn't victimize poor starving villagers, or set ships on fire. though lives have been lost in battle, that is the way of life.

Rufus “Red Eye” Yukon ended his service aboard the Spear on date (insert) when The Spear was damaged and it’s crew captured at high seas by the (local authorities). He was convicted of all crimes, but was not sentenced to death because he had kept journals of his travels which were used in both the court and later in reimbursing people for lost goods.
He was granted leniency and was sentenced to X years at X prison…

I intend to write future “Sea log entries” detailing his adventures at sea and how he came about his class abilities. I can then refer to them in Flashbacks, and tales to other prisoners.

descriptions of class abilities:

AC Bonus (Ex): When unarmored and unencumbered, the Grappler adds her Wisdom bonus (if any) to her AC. In addition, a Grappler gains a +1 bonus to AC at 5th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every five Grappler levels thereafter (+2 at 10th, +3 at 15th, and +4 at 20th level).
These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the Grappler is flat-footed. She loses these bonuses when she is immobilized or helpless, when she wears any armor, when she carries a shield, or when she carries a medium or heavy load.

Effective grapple (Ex): When unarmored, a Grappler does not take the standard -4 penalty to unarmed grappling attacks. As long as a Grappler continuously wins the opposing grapple check he may attack unarmed at his normal BaB (even on the ground), dealing 1d6+STR mod. This damage can be lethal or non-lethal at the Grappler’s discretion. (no penalty is incurred for lethal damage)
This damage rises with the normal Unarmored damage bonus granted Grappler(see grappler/Monk table.).
Continuous grapple When a Grappler reaches 5th level, she may make one extra attack in a round at her highest base attack bonus, but only against someone already in a grapple. This attack takes a –4 penalty, damage is dealt as above. The opponent is allowed another opposing grapple check immediately following the attack, whether is fails or succeeds.

Unarmed Strike:
At 1st level, a Grappler gains Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat. A Grappler’s attacks may be with either fist interchangeably or even from elbows, knees, and feet. This means that a Grappler may even make unarmed strikes with her hands full. There is no such thing as an off-hand attack for a Grappler striking unarmed. A Grappler is never "Prone" for purposes or attacking unarmed. A Grappler may thus apply her full Strength bonus on damage rolls for all her unarmed strikes.
Usually a Grappler’s unarmed strikes deal lethal damage, but she can choose to deal nonlethal damage instead with no penalty on her attack roll. She has the same choice to deal lethal or nonlethal damage while grappling.
A Grappler’s unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.
A Grappler also deals more damage with her unarmed strikes than a normal person would, as shown on Table: The Monk. The unarmed damage on Table: The Monk is for Medium monks. A Small monk deals less damage than the amount given there with her unarmed attacks, while a Large monk deals more damage; see Table: Small or Large Monk Unarmed Damage.

Bonus Feats: At 1st level, a Grappler gains Improved Grapple as a bonus feat.
At 2nd level a Grappler gets either Blind-fight or Combat Expertise as a bonus feat.
Aat 6th level a Grappler gets either Improved Disarm or Improved Trip as a bouns feat. A Grappler need not have any of the prerequisites normally required for these feats to select them. Note: if the grappler already has both these feats he may choose another from the general list, but he must meet the prerequisites.

Evasion (Ex):
At 2nd level or higher if a Grappler makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if a Grappler is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless Grappler does not gain the benefit of evasion.

Fast Movement (Ex):
At 3rd level, a Grappler gains an enhancement bonus to her speed, as shown on Table: The Monk/Grappler. A Grappler in armor or carrying a medium or heavy load loses this extra speed.

Deft manuvering (Ex): A Grappler of 3rd level or higher gains a +2 AC bonus while grappling, this reflects his ability to use the opponent’s body to deflect attacks.
